Workshop Description

Maverick Mosaics offers regularly scheduled “Open Studio” hours, a unique setting for students to take part in a community of like-minded people who are passionate to learn and to create mosaic art. Open Studio is an on-going opportunity where multi-level students work on projects in various stages of completion.

Open Studio participants have full use of the studio and tools including hand tools, grinders, cutting stations, and, with staff supervision, wet saws. The Maverick Mosaic Store offers an extensive and eclectic collection of mosaic materials available for purchase during Open Studio hours including: Italian and Mexican smalti, vitreous tesserae , stained glass, porcelain tiles, millefiori, stone, and a wide selection of natural and found materials. We also sell mosaic hand tools, adhesives and a wonderful selection of colored grouts.

Open Studio offers you a comfortable environment to practice new techniques and apply what you’ve learned at Maverick Mosaic workshops. Many Maverick students have attended Open Studio on and off for years, mastering their skills and working on advanced projects while enjoying the community of their artist peers. During Open Studio our staff are available for assistance, however in-depth instruction and/or lecture is not provided. Students who wish to attend Open Studio become eligible to do so only after taking one of Maverick Mosaics' structured classes or workshops or with the permission of Maverick’s owner Bonnie Fitzgerald. All new students to Open Studio must make a minimum commitment of 10 hours studio time paid in advance. Open Studio attendance is flexible, you are not required to attend on a weekly basis.

Please note that Open Studio is not intended for walk-in’s or inexperienced students. We offer a variety of beginner courses, from our three-hour Mosaic Express workshop, to Introduction to Mosaics in Glass. Design Clinic and private classes can further prepare you for successful Open Studio time.

On RARE OCCASIONS Open Studio hours conflict with a special event, such as visiting artists, holiday, etc. It is ALWAYS best to check our calendar to confirm Open Studio hours.
