Laurel Skye has taken her style of Vetro Tessuto: Weaving tapestries in Glass, one step further in this exciting, new Rajasthani Tapestry Mosaic workshop. If you love glitz and detailing, then this class is definitely for you! This workshop is a study in ‘Tapestries in Miniature’ and is an excellent choice for those that love fabric, detailing, texture, pattern, jewelry and bling.
Each student will go home with a rich, beautiful mixed-media mosaic tapestry, 6” X 10”. You will work within your own chosen color theme, using a wide variety of art glass, ball chain, rhinestone and pearl strands, gold smalti, millefiori, beads, embroidered and sequined trims, costume jewelry, findings and so much more.
You will learn how to incorporate mixed media such as jewelry, beading, fabric trims, copper tubing, and wire into patterning, as well as using colored pigments and mastic to ‘embed’ the tesserae, (as opposed to gluing). The textual feel and look of these tapestries makes grouting unnecessary. All beadwork will be sealed with a separate solution. Laurel will also cover design elements by examining several mosaic methods, including her versatile cutting techniques, and the process of how to ‘overlay’ patterns and sections to create a unique quilting effect in the ‘Rajasthani style.
This workshop offers an opportunity to create amazing mosaics tapestries with great detailing.
*Students will be expected to have their own glass wheel cutters and a few basic household supplies. A list will be available week prior to workshop.
