Tempered Glass Mosaics with Carol Shelkin

Workshop Description

Learn how to create glittering art and jewelry mixing collage with mosaic techniques using "Tempered Glass". Also known as safety glass and crash glass. Tempered glass may be used to create beautiful art as well as architectural installations. Instruction will be given for both interior installations and exterior installations to develop a jewel-like surface.  A PowerPoint presentation showing examples of some of the finest works in3D and 2D Tempered Glass will be shown.

You will complete several mosaic pieces using an overlaying technique with metallic papers, tissue, foils, glitter, mylar and more.  Each student is encouraged to bring a variety of small paper images, photos or text to include in their mosaic. This is the perfect medium to permanently incorporate printed imagery!. Each student will also create two special Tempered Glass  jewelry items.

Apron, wheel tool, detailed list to come week before workshop.

Works will not be grouted during workshop, a demonstration will be given and a grout kit sent home with you. Included in your workshop fee is one complimentary Open Studio session at Maverick Mosaics for you to grout.


About the Instructor: Carol creates contemporary, original and intricate designs that eminent care and attention to detail with hand cut glass. She teaches a variety of art mediums world-wide, but mosaics are her passion first and foremost.
