Reboot your Creativity & Discover your Artistic Voice
PO Box 1551, Vienna, VA 22183 - (703) 856-5160
This workshop is for intermediate or advanced mosaic artists only, and is not designed as an introduction to making mosaics. Sold out, send us a note to be wait listed
In this workshop you will create a mosaic portrait (animal or human) of your own choosing. Emphasis will be on picassiette, using dishes and pottery to develop texture and pattern within your work. By the end of the workshop, with plenty of hands on practice under Gila’s guidance, you will have gained a strong understanding of the process: choosing a good subject, transferring a design, laying materials of varied thicknesses, creating texture, and much more.Students are encouraged to bring some of their own unique finds (dishes, pottery, teacups etc.) to incorporate into and personalize their works. Part of the joy of picassiette comes from collecting materials. Thrift stores & yard sales finds are perfect, as is clearing out cabinets of chipped, cracked dishes, and those broken bits that you can’t bear to throw away, but would love to incorporate into your art! Bring extra to share ensures that there will be unique and surprising selections for all. Students bring: Hand tools (wheel tool, tile nipper), additional picassiette materials, reference image – Gila will send each registered student a letter with specific instructions on choosing & preparing their reference for the workshop.
About the Instructor: Gila Rayberg arrived at the visual arts after a successful career as a freelance musician and educator.
